The historic heart of Stanley
Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust
Some of you may have wondered why there was an empty chair at various locations on East Falklands during April. This was all part of a special exhibition being held at the 'In Flanders Field Museum' in Ypres, Belgium later this year to mark 100 years since the end of the Great War.
This chair will represent those Falkland Islanders that did not return home all those many years ago. The Museum hopes the exhibition will include a chair from every country that suffered loss.
Our Research Assistant, Teena Ormond, had the job of taking the Chair to Goose Green where it sat at the end of the jetty overlooking the settlement and to the Ram and Fleece Show later that same day. In Stanley the chair was present during the Queen's Birthday celebrations held on 21st April.
