Following the success of the 2005 Year of the Sea display, the Museum held an exhibition, "The Falklands and the Sea" in May 2006. The exhibition followed a similar vein - encouraging Islanders to appreciate their maritime heritage - but was made up of almost entirely new material.
Once again, the special display was a resounding success with well over 200 visitors calling into the Parish Hall to enjoy the photographs, models and objects related to the Islands' seafaring history.
The response from the general public was such that the Museum are being urged to hold yet another exhibition on this theme in the future.
This year artwork was produced by the children of the Infant & Junior School - a fantastic array of work, which included poetry about the sea, delighted visitors and, according to teachers, got the youngsters thinking about what the sea means to them.
The
display was very generously supported by 17-year-old Michael Brownlee.
Michael, who has a great love of history, came to the Museum for work
experience two years previously and had maintained close links with
the organisation since. |
