Maritime History

Stanley harbour is a veritable graveyard of wrecks and hulks, many of which are just off the “front road”, and the Islands’ rocky coasts are the last resting place of more than one hundred ships. Many efforts have been made over the years to preserve the wrecks on the surface, and those that only divers can enjoy are offered equal protection. Diving is strictly regulated - licenses are issued to recognised dive clubs, with the condition that nothing be removed from wreck sites without permission.
