The Falkland Islands are famous for the abundance of wildlife and rugged beauty of the countryside. More than 160 native flowering plant species (14 of which are endemic) have been recorded, and more than 200 bird species. Whales, dolphins and porpoises can be found in the surrounding waters, and four species of penguin can be found on the Islands. The Museum’s Natural History Room features a wide range of exhibits – from the fossilised jawbone of a whale, to mounted bird species produced by our resident taxidermist, rock samples and information on local flora. This room is constantly under development as we work to show residents and visitors the natural beauty of the Falklands.
