With the Spanish colonists having arrived at Port Louis, the colony was officially handed over by the French. The French Governor was succeeded by the Spaniard Felipe Ruiz Puente. The Spanish immediately stamped their authority on East Falkland, changing Port Louis’ name to Puerto Soledad (Port Solitude).
