Past Finders

Summer Programme 2017/18


The times and dates are subject to change dependant on the weather.  Please do not drop your child off before the time stated because there may not be a member of staff at the location if you do. 


OCTOBER 2017
SATURDAY 7th – MEET AND GREET
Time TBC - Meet and greet at the Museum.  Come along and meet the staff.  This is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know each other.  Our competition to design a new logo for Past Finders will be launched then. 


SATURDAY 21st – CAPE PEMBROKE PENINSULA WALK AND POLISHING ATLANTIC CONVEYOR MEMORIAL
Drop off: 11am at the start of the new road to the lighthouse.  Outing to the lighthouse and to polish the Atlantic Conveyor Memorial.  We will walk up exploring the peninsula on the way. 
Pickup: 2pm from the lighthouse.  More details will be published closer to the time. 
Please can children wear suitable clothing.  Can they also bring a packed lunch, a bottle of water plus sun cream.  


THURSDAY 26TH - FITZROY FARM VISIT

Drop off: 9am at the museum 

​The children will be able to feed lambs, see the miniature ponies and experience a traditional smoko.

Pickup: 3pm from the museum

Please can children wear suitable clothing.  Can they also bring a packed lunch, a bottle of water plus sun cream.  ​


NOVEMBER 2017
SATURDAY 4th – TUMBLEDOWN WALK
Drop off: 11am at the foot of Tumbledown.   We will walk up Tumbledown and look for the cave that Charles Bender would use to hide sailors that had jumped ship in the late 1800s. 
Pick up: 2pm
Please can children wear suitable clothing.  Can they also bring a packed lunch, a bottle of water plus sun cream. 

SATURDAY 18th – BATTLE OF THE FALKLANDS LESSON ON TOP OF SAPPER HILL
Drop off: 10am at the Foot of Sapper Hill.  We will climb to the top and learn about the Battle of the Falklands.  We will then walk down to the 1914 Centenary Memorial and polish the plaques ready for the parade on Dec 8th.   
Pick up:1pm from Historic Dockyard Museum
Please can children wear suitable clothing.  Can they also bring a packed lunch, a bottle of water plus sun cream. 


DECEMBER 2017
SATURDAY 2nd – THE BIG CAMP OUT
Big camp out at Sapper Hill Corral.  £10 per child plus can parents supply something for the BBQ (sausages, burgers, chops, bread)
Drop off: Sat at 2pm on the road near the corral.
We will set up camp; walk to Mullet Creek for a spot of fishing and finish the evening off by having a barbecue and learning about our corrals.  Sunday, weather permitting, we will walk over to Mile Pond looking at the flora and fauna of the Falklands. 
Can parents please make sure their child has a suitable plastic container to carry their lunch in on Sunday; plus a bottle of water and suitable clothing.  More details will be published closer to the time. 


SATURDAY 16th – CHRISTMAS COMES TO THE MUSEUM
Christmas at the Museum.  We have something great planned for the evening … more to come on that soon!  Any child wanting to help decorate the grotto ready for Santa’s visit that evening is welcome to come along that morning between 10 and 12pm.


JANUARY 2018
FRIDAY 5th – LADY ELIZABETH, ENGINEER POINT, HADASSA BAY, ORDNANCE POINT, GYPSY COVE WALK AND PICNIC
Drop off: 10am at the Lady Elizabeth
We will walk from the Lady Elizabeth to Engineer Point, Hadassa Bay, Ordnance Point and finish up at Gypsy Cove. 
Pick up: Gypsy Cove at 2pm 
Please can children wear suitable clothing.  Can they also bring a packed lunch, a bottle of water plus sun cream. 

THURSDAY 18th – WILD STRAWBERRY PICKING AND LOCAL FLORA SKETCHING
Drop off: 11am at the foot of Mt William on the MPA road.
We will look for wild strawberries and sketch local flora.

FEBRUARY 2018
SATURDAY 3rd – STANLEY HISTORIC WALK AND QUIZ
Drop off: 1pm at the Jetty Centre
Historic walk in Stanley with Brian Summers and quiz at the museum. 
Pick up: 3pm from the museum

MONDAY 26th – A VISIT TO GOOSE GREEN FOR THE SPORTS
Day trip to Goose Green to take part in the children’s sports activities and maybe visit the Goose Green Hall where residents were locked up for 4 weeks during 1982. 
Leaving the Museum at 9am. 


MARCH 2018
SATURDAY 17th – TEABERRY PICKING ON WIRELESS RIDGE
Drop off: 1pm at the turn-off to the Murrell for a spot of teaberry picking.  You keep what you collect so bring a suitable container.
Pick up: 3pm from the turn-off. 

Please can children wear suitable clothing and bring a bottle of water and sun cream.


APRIL 2018
SUNDAY 1st – EASTER AT THE MUSEUM
1 – 3pm - Easter egg hunt at the Museum.  Competition to design the best egg or bonnet with a National Trust theme (Lighthouse, corral etc).
