Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust
The historic heart of Stanley
We are happy to announce that the Falkland Islands Company (FIC) has offered to sponsor our Ball this year. The Falklands Ball is being held as close as possible to Falklands Day on 14th August (1592) and will be a celebration of the first recorded sighting of the Falkland Islands (by English Cpt John Davis in 1592.)
This year's proceeds from the ball (and raffle) will be going towards a new San Carlos Museum - which we regrettably had to close last year due to the condition of the building.
The M&NT are grateful to the Falkland Islands Company for their generosity and also to Jeannie McKay for her support and donation of decorations and other Ball related paraphernalia.
We are also grateful to Nikki Buxton who has kindly agreed to continue to make the sash for the winning young lady (who will be crowned Miss Falklands on the night), and to Lisa and Lee Martin who have kindly offered to take care of the music. Incidentally, if you don't know how to dance (like most of us here at the Museum) then get yourself to the Parish Hall on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 8.30 for some lessons with Lisa and Lee. Nobody laughs at you... we promise!
We are also very pleased to announce that the FIC staff want to get actively involved with making decorations and setting up for the event.
We have had some lovely people offer to help us with the food so thank you to all of you too.
As per the Winter Ball, the Falklands Ball will be open to students in Y9 and over. Tickets will go on sale at the school first (£10 per person) and any tickets left over will be available to the public. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
